Emergency Drain Cleaning in Athens: what actually fails
On older lots the outside cleanout is often buried under years of planting or a later slab of concrete, and finding it at eleven at night is a large part of the call. Knowing where yours is in daylight is worth a genuine amount of money.
Unincorporated county territory directly north of Gardena, one of the older settled pockets in this part of the basin and never annexed by any city.
- Clay or cast iron, established before any method is chosen
- Which joint the roots are entering, not just that they are
- Whether a cleanout exists, and whether it has been buried
- That a repair permit here comes from the county, not a city

From first call to finished
Your cleanout found and shown to you, and the real LA County figure rather than a $49 advert.
Call, and tell us what is affected
Which fixtures, and whether anything backs up at the lowest point in the house — which here is usually a shower or a tub, not a floor drain.
We find the cleanout
On slab construction the outside cleanout is the way in, and a surprising number of people have never been shown where theirs is.
The cheap answers first
If it is one slow fixture, we will tell you what to try before we come out — a plunger with the overflow blocked, or a hand snake past the trap.
Clear it, then say what caused it
A blockage cleared without a cause explained is one you will pay for again.
What to do before anybody arrives
- Is that $49 price the priceIt is a real price for a narrow job: a cable through an accessible cleanout, close to the blockage. The honest LA County average is $227 across a $110 to $345 range. Ask which of those two your house is, before anybody drives out.
- Did they establish branch or main before quotingOne blocked fixture and one blocked building are different jobs at different prices. The question takes thirty seconds.
- Do they know what the pipe is made ofClay, cast iron, ABS or PVC. It decides whether jetting is safe and at what pressure, and across these six places the answer changes by decades.
- Will they tell you when you do not need themA hand snake solves a great many shower drains and a closet auger a great many toilets. Somebody willing to say so is giving advice against their own immediate interest.

Emergency Drain Cleaning in Athens: straight answers

Still have a question?
Call and ask. You get a straight answer and an estimated range before anybody drives out.
(310) 845-7831It is late and nothing has overflowed yet. Wait or call?
If only one fixture is affected and the rest of the house runs normally, wait — it will be identical in the morning and cost less. If the shower or tub is holding water when you use something else, do not wait, and stop using water entirely in the meantime, including the washing machine and dishwasher.
Can you find the cleanout in the dark?
Usually, and a real part of a night call-out is spent doing exactly that. It is worth knowing that this is the one piece of preparation that reliably saves money: ten minutes locating yours on a Saturday afternoon removes the slowest part of a job you cannot schedule.
What can I put in my basement floor drain to unclog it?
Nothing, and not because the products are bad — because on a slab house there is no floor drain to put it in. The access point that matters here is a cleanout OUTSIDE, at the wall or out by the curb, and it is the thing worth knowing the location of before you need it. It is also what every advertised drain price quietly assumes: a $49 advert buys a cable through an accessible cleanout and nothing more. If yours has been paved over, planted over or built over, that price was never going to apply to your house, and finding that out at eleven at night is the expensive way.
Can I pour drano down a basement floor drain?
On slab-on-grade construction, a caustic cleaner is a worse bet than the label suggests, and for a reason that is about your foundation rather than about chemistry. Those products work by generating heat inside a closed pipe. In a basement house, a joint they damage leaks onto a floor you can see, and the repair is reachable. Under a slab, the same joint leaks under six inches of concrete: you find out from the flooring months later, and the repair is concrete work. There is also a practical point — when it fails to clear a blockage it stays there, hot, and whoever opens the line afterwards meets it first.
